The Records

Serie G really was a season of 2 divisions. The top 4 broke away from the rest early in the season and never threatened to be caught. Simon was building up a good lead of over 30 pts in Feb and moving closer to the title but Grahams team suddenly caught fire with Henry, DiCanio and Kewell all scoring for fun, by mid April Graham had overhauled Simon’s lead. Graham never looked back and comfortable won his first league title by 30 pts in the end. In the end Simon just about clung on to 2nd place (not helped by having his first choice forwards all injured) from Mad Dog, leaving us with the same top 3 as in the previous season. Graham R finished 4th, which was a good come back following the wooden spoon debacle of last season

As for the bottom 4, they all took their turn at staring that wooden spoon in the face. Mav many peoples favorite for the bottom spot, rallied very well during the run it to finish 6th. Nigel, the Fantasy league favorite to finish last for most of the season appeared to get himself out of trouble until an injury crisis to his forwards and realization that he only had 3 midfield players plunged him back into trouble. He managed to move above Julian and into 7th place on the last week of the season. Julian who as usual spent most of the season on the bottom did improve towards the end of the season (helped by Matt Elliot playing up front for Leicester) and finished in a respectable (for him) 8th place. But pride of place belongs to Paul (oh how the mighty have fallen) in a season littered with forgotten or misjudged substitution (who can forget Robbie Keane scoring a brace of goals when on his bench cos he forgot to change him or even better the Kanu hat trick at Chelsea) Paul takes his place along side that select band in the Wooden Spoon hall of shame! Kevin (like the Tottenham team he adores!!!) was just mid table rubbish all season.

The league Series ended up (not for the first time) as a competition between Simon and Kev, Simon taking victory by 3 points. Kev ended up second. Graham continued his good season and finished 3rd. Paul for all his dismal league form did spend some time at the top of the League series and finally finished a creditable 4th. However the same cannot be said for his brother who managed to finish bottom after a close tussle with Nigel who sneaked above him during the last round of games.

The Ken Bates trophy was won by Simon beating Kevin in a very close final 18-16. However Kevin bounced back to win the Coupe de Perry Groves beating Nigel in what became known as the ‘Donkey Final’ 17-13. Graham R crowned a good season by winning the FA (to play for) Cup beating the champion in the final 13-7.

The FA cup league was walked away with by Julian. Simon was 2nd and Graham 3rd. Kevin showing a Man Utd lack of interest was last by a mile.
